IP Address Lookup

Resolve a domain to an IP, or geolocate an address.

About the IP Address Lookup

Resolves a hostname to its addresses and returns the network details for each: the owning organisation, the autonomous system, the approximate location and the reverse DNS name.

Location data from IP is approximate by nature. It reflects where the address block is registered, which for a CDN is often a continent away from the machine serving your request. Treat city-level claims as a hint.

If the lookup returns Cloudflare, Fastly or a similar network, you are seeing the edge rather than the origin server, which is exactly what a CDN is meant to do. It also means IP-based checks of the origin will tell you nothing until you query the origin directly.

Common questions

Why does the location shown seem wrong?

IP-based geolocation reflects where the IP block is registered, not necessarily the physical server. For sites behind a CDN, this is often a different continent entirely from the origin server.

What does it mean if the result shows Cloudflare or Fastly as the owner?

You're seeing the CDN edge network in front of the real origin server, which is exactly what a CDN is designed to do — the origin's real location is hidden by design.

Can I look up an IPv6 address?

Yes, the tool accepts both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and hostnames.
