Meta Tag Analyzer

See every meta tag a page serves, with length warnings.

Reads the tags the server actually sends, which is not always what your CMS preview shows.

About the Meta Tag Analyzer

This pulls every tag that affects how a page is described in search results and on social platforms: title, meta description, robots directives, canonical, viewport, hreflang, Open Graph and Twitter Card. It reports what is present, what is missing and where two tags contradict each other.

Contradictions are the interesting part. A page that carries both index in the meta robots tag and noindex in an X-Robots-Tag header will be dropped, because the header wins and most people never look at headers. A canonical pointing at a different page than the one you think is canonical quietly moves your ranking signals somewhere else.

Duplicate tags are equally common and equally invisible in a browser. Plugins, themes and template partials each add their own title tag; the browser shows one and search engines pick whichever comes first in the source. The analyzer counts them so you can find the second one and remove it.

Common questions

Why does it flag a tag my browser shows fine?

Browsers only show the first of several duplicate tags. Plugins, themes and page builders often each add their own title or description, and the analyzer counts every one it finds in the source.

What's the ideal title length?

There's no fixed character count because Google truncates by pixel width, not letters. As a working rule, keep the important words in the first ~60 characters and check the actual result with the SERP Snippet Preview tool.

Does a missing canonical tag hurt rankings?

It doesn't directly penalise a page, but if the same content is reachable at more than one URL, Google has to guess which one to index — a self-referencing canonical removes the guesswork.
