Text Compare

Line-by-line diff between two blocks of text.

Paste two versions and press Compare.

About the Text Compare

Compares two blocks of text line by line and highlights what was added, removed and changed. Both sides stay in your browser.

The everyday uses are unglamorous and constant: checking what a client actually changed in a returned draft, diffing two versions of a robots.txt, confirming that a copy-paste between environments did not silently drop a line.

The comparison is line-based, so reformatting a paragraph shows as a change even when the words are identical. If you are comparing prose that has been rewrapped, normalise the line breaks first or you will get a diff that is technically correct and completely unreadable.

Common questions

Why does it flag a whole paragraph as changed when only one word moved?

The comparison works line by line. If a paragraph was rewrapped or reflowed, every line shifts even though the words are identical — normalise line breaks first if you're comparing rewrapped prose.

What's a common practical use for this?

Checking exactly what a client changed in a returned draft, or confirming a copy-paste between two environments didn't silently drop a line.

Does either text get uploaded anywhere?

No — the comparison runs entirely in your browser.
